Susan Ebeler is a Professor in the Department of Viticulture and Enology and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Academic Programs at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, University of California, Davis. She earned her B.S. in Food Science from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Food Science and Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry, respectively, from UC Davis. Her research focuses on analytical chemistry, phytochemistry, and plant physiology, employing advanced metabolomics and mass spectrometry to characterize phenolic, volatile, and glycosidic compounds in grapes, hops, and wines. Ebeler’s recent work includes a metabolomics assay for diagnosing citrus Huanglongbing disease and investigations into how plant growth regulators affect grape composition. She has led collaborative projects on chemical ecology, including a National Science Foundation-funded study on individual scent in seabirds, and maintains extensive international partnerships across Italy, Spain, Germany, and Australia.
