Lee D. Han is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a Collaborating Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He holds a BS from National Taiwan University, an MS from Virginia Tech, and a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. His research integrates transportation engineering with data science and machine learning, focusing on spatiotemporal traffic modeling, transit network analysis via GTFS data, low-resolution video traffic monitoring, and pothole detection using kernel density clustering. Recent work includes developing an input–output hidden Markov approach for construction waste hauling trucks and evaluating variable speed limit safety effects. He leads a $1.2M NSF project on secure constrained machine learning for critical infrastructure and collaborates extensively with institutions across the US, China, South Korea, and Brazil.
