David A. Van Sanford is a Professor in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at the University of Kentucky, where he has held a faculty position since 2019. He earned his Ph.D. from North Carolina State University (1981), following an M.S. from Colorado State University (1978) and a B.S. from Oregon State University (1973). His research focuses on wheat and cereal rye breeding, with specific interests in marker-assisted introgression of disease resistance genes, genomic prediction for grain yield in southeastern US environments, and speed breeding to reduce generation time in winter wheat. Recent work includes characterizing the ph1b mutant in modern wheat lines and enhancing prediction accuracy through multi-environment genomic models incorporating spectral and thermal data. He has received funding for research on robust disease-resistant QTL in variable climates and collaborates extensively with institutions across the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
