David A. Welsh is a Professor at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans. His research focuses on the intersection of HIV, alcohol use, and immunology, particularly examining how alcohol consumption and the gut microbiome influence mucosal immune homeostasis in HIV infection. His recent work investigates dietary indoles and their effects on the AHR–RORγt axis in ART-treated SIV infection, alongside studies on alcohol's impact on cortisol levels, pain, and medication adherence in people living with HIV.
