Viktor V. Zhdankin is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Minnesota Duluth. His research focuses on the development of new synthetic methodologies based on hypervalent iodine chemistry, including the design of environmentally friendly reagents and catalysts for organic synthesis. Recent work includes the metal-free, hypervalent iodine-mediated synthesis of pyrazole-tethered isoxazoles and 2-[(3-aryl-isoxazol-5-yl)methoxy)]benzaldehydes with biological evaluation, the preparation of novel meta-hydroxy-substituted aryliodonium salts, and the use of pseudocyclic arylbenziodoxaboroles as aryne precursors for the aqueous synthesis of arylphosphonium and arylammonium salts. He has published extensively, including reviews in *Chemical Reviews* and *Chemical Society Reviews*, and has secured continuous NSF RUI funding for his hypervalent iodine research program.
