Visiting Professor of Clinical Pediatrics
Valerian Kagan is a Visiting Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Columbia University. A senior professor, he investigates redox biology, membrane biology, and oxidative stress, with a focus on ferroptosis—a noncanonical form of regulated cell death. His recent work, published in *Cell* and *Molecular Cell*, identifies a GPX1-OSBPL8 axis mediating in vivo ferroptosis and tumor suppression, and targets PRDX6-dependent GPX4 localization to enhance ferroptosis-based cancer therapy. He also explores 15-LOX catalytic bias in pro-ferroptotic signaling, ferroptosis in tumor neutrophils and immunotherapy, and antiferroptotic drug applications in preeclampsia. His research spans biochemistry, immunology, and pharmacology, with implications for cancer, placental pathology, and skin disease.
