Vahid Afshar-Kharghan is a Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he investigates the intersection of hematology, vascular biology, and cancer immunology. His research focuses on the role of blood platelets in modulating the ovarian tumor microenvironment, thrombosis in malignancy, and complement-mediated thrombotic microangiopathy. Recent work has uncovered platelet extravasation in the microvasculature, LATS1/2-CD38 metabolic rewiring linked to intraplaque thrombosis, and platelet-induced VISTA expression in ovarian cancer. His studies also explore B cell depletion effects on melanoma growth and multiscale 3D spatial analysis of tumor microenvironments.
