Travis Courtney is a Senior Professor at the University of Puerto Rico–Mayaguez. His research integrates marine ecology, oceanography, and environmental science to investigate coral reef biogeochemistry, net ecosystem calcification, and the impacts of climate change on reef persistence. Recent work includes projecting coral reef structure survival into the twenty-first century, assessing eutrophication thresholds in Puerto Rico using satellite-derived chlorophyll-a, and examining hypoxia driven by Caribbean Sargassum blooms. He also studies seawater CO2 chemistry across reef habitats in the South China Sea and contributes to refining carbonate budget methodologies.
