Tian Chen

Tian Chen is the Kamel Salama Endowed Assistant Professor at the University of Houston. His research integrates additive manufacturing, mechanics of materials, and computational design, focusing on mechanical metamaterials, bistable structures, and tunable auxetic materials for elastic wave guiding. Recent work includes 2D-XRD and micro-CT characterization of 3D-printed 316L stainless steel, magnetically controlled bistability for material logic, and shape-reconfiguring structures using heat-activated fibers. He has received NSF funding, including the DMREF collaborative award on highly entangled materials, and collaborates with institutions such as MIT, Caltech, ETH Zurich, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
