Thomas Weickert is a Senior Professor at Upstate Medical University, where he leads research in biological psychiatry and neuroscience. His work focuses on schizophrenia spectrum disorders, integrating molecular psychiatry, psychopathology, and translational approaches to understand psychotic disorders. His recent publications include a 2025 ENIGMA study in the *American Journal of Psychiatry* estimating multimodal structural brain variability in schizophrenia, and a meta-analysis in *Biological Psychiatry* linking subcortical volumes and cortical thickness to negative symptom dimensions. He has also investigated antipsychotic-induced prolactin elevation and its associations with estrogen, cognition, and disease severity in premenopausal women, as well as divergent effects of testosterone and estrogen on cognition in men. His research further explores the relationship between peripheral inflammation and intellectual decline in schizophrenia, alongside contributions to fine-mapping genomic loci for bipolar disorder risk genes.
