Sue Leurgans is a Senior Professor at Rush University, specializing in the neuroscience of aging, dementia, and neurodegenerative diseases. Her research integrates neuropathology, neuroimaging, and clinical epidemiology to elucidate the determinants of cognitive decline in older populations. Her recent work links aberrant mitochondrial metabolism and ferroptosis to Alzheimer's disease, examines hippocampal neuronal loss in LATE-NC and ADNC, and investigates the MIND diet's association with hippocampal sclerosis. She also studies cerebrovascular pathology in Black decedents and deep gray matter morphometry, contributing to landmark studies on aging and dementia.
