Assistant Professor of Computer Science
Subigya Nepal is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Virginia. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies at Dartmouth College (2024) and his BS in Computer Science and Information Technology from Deerwalk Institute of Technology (2017). His research focuses on mobile sensing, ubiquitous computing, and human-computer interaction to advance digital mental health. He develops passive sensing and ecological momentary assessment methodologies to model depression, anhedonia, loneliness, and suicidal ideation, integrating LLM-based contextual analysis with time-series behavioral data. His recent publications examine digital phenotypes of major depressive disorder, alcohol consumption prediction, and semantic markers in daily diary entries. He is also known for GLOBEM, a cross-dataset generalization framework for longitudinal human behavior modeling, and for using mobile sensing to differentiate workplace job performance.
