Professor of Psychiatry
Steven Kushner is a Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University, where his research integrates molecular psychiatry, neurogenetics, and developmental neurobiology. His recent work focuses on human adherent cortical organoids in multiwell formats for high-throughput neuroscience, alongside investigations into birth order and disease risk across the human phenome using data from 10 million siblings. He has also advanced disease-modifying strategies for Angelman syndrome, including xenotransplantation models for reactivating paternal UBE3A via human-specific antisense oligonucleotides. His contributions span biological psychiatry and molecular neurodegeneration, with active international collaborations and publications in venues such as eLife and Scientific Reports.
