R. Stephen Lloyd is a Senior Professor at Oregon Health & Science University. His research integrates molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry to investigate DNA repair mechanisms, with a specific focus on base excision repair and the role of NEIL1 in genome maintenance. His recent work has elucidated metal ion-dependent gain-of-function mechanisms in NEIL1 variants and characterized aflatoxin B1-induced DNA adduct formation and hepatic mutagenesis in gene-edited mouse models. He has also explored the pharmacological inhibition of 8-oxoguanine DNA glycosylase-1 (OGG1) by the compound TH5487, advancing the clinical validation of DNA repair enzymes as drug targets.
