Shan Zhou is an Assistant Professor at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Her research centers on materials science and nanochemistry, with a specific focus on nanoparticle synthesis, high-entropy alloy nanocrystals, and the self-assembly of open superlattices. Her recent work, published in *Nature Communications* and *PNAS*, has revealed the reconfiguration of electrical double layers during nucleation at solid–liquid interfaces and advanced the synthesis of facet-controlled core–shell nanocrystals for catalysis. She leads an NSF ExpandQISE project on 2D materials and metasurfaces for quantum communications and directs the acquisition of a scanning transmission electron microscope for materials research.
