Sean O'Mahony is a Senior Professor at Rush University, specializing in palliative care, pain and symptom management, and end-of-life nursing. His research addresses health disparities in serious illness, particularly discriminatory care experienced by LGBTQ+ patients and partners, as well as training providers in inclusive palliative practices. He investigates the integration of behavioral health with hospice care, advance care planning among Medicare beneficiaries with cognitive impairment, and the comparative effectiveness of telehealth versus in-person early palliative care for advanced lung cancer. His recent work also examines dignity therapy outcomes and symptom burden in older adults with advanced lung disease.
