Scott Walters is a Senior Professor at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. His research integrates public health, behavioral sciences, and psychiatry, focusing on substance use disorders, addictive behaviors, and mental health among vulnerable populations. Recent work examines alcohol avoidance motivation and use among unhoused adults, substance use disorder in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and the application of AI to identify innovations in opioid addiction treatment. He also analyzes the NIH HEAL initiative’s portfolio to advance research translation in addiction and pain, contributing to randomized controlled trials on reducing non-fatal opioid overdoses.
