Scott Edwards is a Senior Professor at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans. His research focuses on the neurobiology of alcohol dependence, substance use disorders, and addiction biology, with particular emphasis on behavioral neuroscience and the intersection of alcohol use with psychiatric conditions. His recent work investigates alcohol-mediated cognitive impairment following traumatic brain injury, specifically examining cortical mitochondrial dysfunction, as well as the translational risks and benefits of alcohol and cannabis use for pain management. He has also explored the influence of alcohol use on cortisol levels and negative affect in people with HIV, and conducted proteomic analyses of chronic binge alcohol-induced neuroadaptations in the hippocampus and anterior cingulate cortex. His research integrates neuroimmune mechanisms and pain pathways to advance understanding of addictive behaviors.
