Scott E. Evans, MD, FCCP, ATSF, is a Professor in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he holds the rank of High Senior Professor. He earned his medical degree and completed his fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine, establishing a career focused on respiratory immunology and infectious disease. His research investigates host-directed therapies for pneumonia, particularly the molecular mechanisms of lung epithelial antimicrobial responses, including TLR9-independent signaling pathways and the role of transcription factors such as cJun and RelA in innate immunity. His recent work also explores host genetic variation in pneumonia susceptibility, prophylactic inhaled pattern recognition receptor agonists, and the pathophysiology of respiratory infections in immunocompromised cancer patients. Dr. Evans has published extensively in leading journals, including the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology, iScience, and Clinics in Chest Medicine, and his contributions to pulmonary research have been recognized through fellowship in the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Thoracic Society.
