Scott C. Baraban is an Adjunct Professor at the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute, University of California, Berkeley. His research integrates developmental neurobiology, pharmacology, and genetics to investigate the pathophysiology of epilepsy and its comorbidities, with a particular focus on Dravet syndrome and developmental epileptic encephalopathies. Employing zebrafish models, his recent work has established automated seizure detection at scale, mapped conserved GABAergic interneuron markers, and demonstrated that zebrafish models accurately reflect clinical electrographic biomarkers. His latest publications also explore complement component C1qa-deficient mice and repurposing 4-phenylbutyrate for STXBP1-related disorders. His translational efforts include a Phase 3 trial of clemizole hydrochloride for Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
