Associate Professor of Clinical Neuroscience in Psychiatry
Saskia Haegens is an Associate Professor of Clinical Neuroscience (in Psychiatry) at Columbia University. Her research integrates systems and cognitive neuroscience to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying human cognition, with a specific focus on oscillatory brain dynamics in working memory and perceptual decision-making. Her recent work has characterized the role of alpha and beta-band oscillations in prefrontal and posterior cortices, including how distinct alpha networks modulate decision-making and how beta-frequency shifts signal decisions. She has also explored spectrolaminar motifs of local field potentials across primate neocortex and the effects of transcranial magnetic stimulation on working-memory performance. Her 2025 publications appear in venues such as Nature Neuroscience, PLoS Biology, and Cerebral Cortex.
