Samuel Herberg is an Associate Professor at Upstate Medical University, where his research integrates tissue engineering, biomedical engineering, and cell biology to address challenges in ophthalmology and regenerative medicine. His work focuses on mechanobiology and biomaterials, particularly investigating how mechanical cues and cell signaling drive ocular pathophysiology. Recent breakthroughs include elucidating TRPV4 activation by TGFβ2 in enhancing cellular contractility and ocular hypertension (eLife, 2025), and exploring YAP/TAZ mechanosignaling in trabecular meshwork dysfunction (Vision Research, 2024). His latest studies also examine compression injury effects on astrocytes in 3D hydrogels and substrate stiffness-induced endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition in corneal cells.
