Rugang Zhang is a Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he leads a research program in gynecologic oncology and cancer biology. His work focuses on ovarian cancer pathogenesis, tumor immunology, and the molecular mechanisms of oncogene-driven malignancy. Recent breakthroughs include demonstrating that ARID1A deficiency drives chromosomal instability via centromeric RNA transcription, identifying PPP2R1A mutations as predictors of improved immunotherapy survival, and uncovering therapeutic vulnerabilities in ARID1A-mutant ovarian cancer through alanine transporter targeting. His research also explores PARP inhibitor resistance mechanisms and macrophage-mediated phagocytosis in pancreatic cancer. He has published in Nature, Nature Reviews Cancer, and Cancer Research, and maintains active international collaborations in translational oncology.
