Mark J. Routbort is a Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on molecular diagnostics, cancer genetics, and hematological malignancies, with particular emphasis on oncogene alterations, leukemia genomics, and the clinical application of liquid biopsy. His recent work includes investigating TOP1 variant evolution under therapeutic selective pressure, characterizing clinicogenomic features of pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma, and evaluating targeted RNA-seq and optical genome mapping for detecting gene rearrangements in acute leukemia. He has contributed to landmark studies such as the NCI-MATCH trial, examining concordance between tumor tissue and plasma DNA genotyping, and has advanced routine liquid biopsy testing for solid tumors to enable minimally invasive genomic variant detection with faster turnaround times. His publications span top-tier journals including Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, and JCO Precision Oncology.
