Robert C. Bast is the Harry Carothers Wiess Distinguished University Chair for Cancer Research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on ovarian cancer biology, tumor biomarkers, and therapeutic resistance mechanisms. Recent work includes developing novel serum glycoprotein biomarkers for earlier ovarian cancer recurrence detection, investigating DIRAS3-mediated suppression of MAPK/PI3K pathways across KRAS mutations, and exploring SIK2/3 inhibition to induce ER stress and autophagy blockade. He has demonstrated that GRN-300 restores PARP inhibitor sensitivity via the HDAC-MEF2A-RAD51 pathway in BRCA2-revertant tumors. His translational efforts bridge cell signaling, gynecologic oncology, and pharmacology, supported by awards including a grant for GRN-300 in triple-negative breast cancer.
