Ewing Lamont Research Professor in the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory; Adjunct Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences
Robert Anderson is the Ewing Lamont Research Professor at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Adjunct Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences. His research integrates marine chemistry, biogeochemistry, and paleoceanography to reconstruct past ocean circulation, low-oxygen conditions, and carbon storage, with recent work on ²³¹Pa/²³⁰Th circulation proxies, hydrothermal scavenging in the equatorial Pacific, and Arctic Ocean halocline tracers. A leader of the international GEOTRACES program, he collaborates with institutions across the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia. His 2025 publications include reviews of low-oxygen proxies and orbital influences on deep-ocean respiration, advancing understanding of climate-driven biogeochemical cycles.
