Richard R. Behringer is a Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research integrates developmental, reproductive, and molecular biology to elucidate mammalian embryology and gene expression. Recent breakthroughs include discovering superstable lipid vacuoles that determine cartilage shape and biomechanics (Science, 2025), defining region-specific roles of oviductal motile cilia in oocyte transport and fertility (Biology of Reproduction, 2025), and linking dysregulated mitochondrial energy metabolism to invasive bladder cancer progression (The Journal of Pathology, 2025). His work also spans comparative reproductive biology, including oogenesis in the brown anole lizard, and female tract development.
