Rein Ulijn is a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at CUNY–Hunter College, where he leads research at the intersection of biomolecular engineering, nanoscience, and peptide-based materials. His work focuses on sequence-controlled peptide design, supramolecular assembly, and adaptive nanomaterials with applications in biomedical engineering and drug delivery. Recent breakthroughs include water-mediated reconfigurable topology in porous peptide materials, drying-induced biomolecule encapsulation via adaptive peptide dispersions, and drug-matched oligopeptide excipients for high-loading nanoaggregates. He has published in Nature Materials, Nature Reviews Materials, and Angewandte Chemie, and his contributions to peptide engineering and molecular systems chemistry have earned international recognition. His research advances fundamental understanding of context-dependent assembly codes and the potential for molecular learning in synthetic systems.
