Puja Agarwal is a Senior Professor at Rush University. Her research investigates the intersection of nutrition, neuroscience, and geriatrics, with a specific focus on how dietary factors influence cognitive aging and Alzheimer’s disease pathology. Her recent work examines the impact of ultraprocessed foods and sweetened beverages on dementia risk, the neuroprotective potential of the MIND diet, and the role of dietary choline in Alzheimer’s prevention. She has also explored novel mechanisms of neurodegeneration, including aberrant mitochondrial metabolism and ferroptosis, as well as the association between metal exposure from joint replacements and Alzheimer’s pathology. Her findings have been published in leading journals, including JAMA Psychiatry, JAMA Network Open, and the Annual Review of Nutrition.
