Philip Orton is a Research Associate Professor at the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science at Stevens Institute of Technology. His research focuses on coastal oceanography, estuarine dynamics, and compound flood hazards, particularly the combined effects of sea-level rise, storm surge, and extreme rainfall on urban coastal environments. His recent work includes leading contributions to the New York City Panel on Climate Change (NPCC4), analyzing pluvial flooding during post-tropical cyclone Ida, and modeling geomorphic versus climatic drivers of changing coastal flood risk. He has received NSF PREEVENTS funding for this research and collaborates extensively with institutions across the US, Europe, and China, including Columbia University, Deltares, and the University of Southampton.
