Pin-Lan Li is a Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she holds the title of High Senior Professor. Her research integrates pharmacology, vascular biology, and nephrology, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of lysosomal signaling, acid sphingomyelinase, and ceramide metabolism in renal and cardiovascular disease. Recent work has elucidated how acid sphingomyelinase regulates gasdermin D pore formation and NLRP3 inflammasome activation in podocytes, contributing to hyperhomocysteinemia- and obesity-induced glomerulopathy. She has also investigated hepatic Asah1 gene ablation in fibrotic non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and FAAH inhibition for cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury. Her collaborative network spans institutions in the United States, China, Germany, Canada, and Pakistan.
