Peter S. Spencer is a Professor of Neurology at Oregon Health & Science University. His research focuses on molecular neurodegeneration, neurotoxicology, and environmental health, with specific interests in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Guam Parkinsonism-dementia complex, and nodding syndrome. His recent work explores the cerebrospinal fluid proteome in nodding syndrome, linking it to environmentally triggered MECP2 dysregulation, and investigates climate change impacts on brain health across Europe, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Middle East. He has developed patient-derived neuroprogenitor cells to study the etiology of Guam Parkinsonism-dementia complex. His publications span Frontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, the Journal of the Neurological Sciences, and Annals of Global Health, reflecting his international collaborations on environmental neurological threats.
