Peter S. Nico is an Associate Adjunct Professor at the University of California, Berkeley. His research integrates biogeochemistry, environmental chemistry, and soil science, focusing on the coupled cycling of carbon, calcium, and redox-sensitive elements in terrestrial systems. Recent work investigates microbial community resilience to fluctuating redox conditions in tropical soils, the oxalate-carbonate pathway of biomineralisation in East African fig trees, and the role of calcium in stabilizing specific soil organic carbon decomposition products. He also leads assessments of land-based resources for engineered carbon dioxide removal in the United States and received a Student Travel Scholarship for the SES-IV Conference in 2008.
