Peter Adams is the Thomas Lord Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, where he also serves as Department Head of Engineering and Public Policy and holds a courtesy appointment in Chemical Engineering. He earned his B.S. from Cornell University (1996) and his M.S. (1998) and Ph.D. (2001) from the California Institute of Technology. His research focuses on atmospheric aerosol science, source-resolved particulate matter modeling, and the intersection of air quality, climate policy, and environmental health equity. Recent work quantifies racial disparities in transportation and power generation emissions, evaluates U.S. climate goals beyond the Inflation Reduction Act, and develops high-resolution machine learning downscaling of PM2.5 predictions. He has collaborated extensively with institutions across the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Canada, including NASA Goddard, and has secured major NSF funding for aerosol instrumentation and infrastructure planning.
