Pepper J. Schedin is a Professor of Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology at Oregon Health & Science University, where she holds the Leonard Schnitzer Endowed Chair in Breast Oncology. Her research focuses on the tumor biology of breast cancer, particularly cell plasticity in the postpartum mammary gland, the role of SOX9 and SEMA7A in epithelial plasticity, and the microenvironmental regulation of mesenchymal phenotypes via S-nitrosylated COX-2. Her recent work also investigates young-onset breast cancer risk through the Healthy Oregon Project, predictors of liver metastasis, and myoepithelial marker loss in DCIS. She has received major awards, including a $1.1 million grant on postpartum liver biology and a $693,000 grant on immune vulnerabilities in young women’s breast cancer liver metastases.
