Paul Cinciripini is a Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he leads research in tobacco control, addiction psychiatry, and behavioral sciences. His work focuses on nicotine dependence, smoking cessation pharmacotherapy, and the neuroaffective mechanisms underlying addictive behaviors. Recent breakthroughs include a randomized controlled trial personalizing cessation treatment using neuroaffective reactivity profiles (Addiction, 2026) and integrating tobacco treatment into lung cancer screening settings (JAMA Internal Medicine, 2025). He has also examined cognitive-behavioral counseling thresholds, varenicline’s effects on craving and abstinence, and tobacco-related disparities in rural and medically underserved Texas communities. His collaborations span national initiatives, including the American Cancer Society National Lung Cancer Roundtable strategic plan for tobacco treatment in lung cancer screening contexts.
