Patrick M. Dougherty is a Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on the neurophysiological mechanisms of chronic and neuropathic pain, with particular emphasis on human dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons and cancer-induced nerve injury. His recent work includes a reference atlas of the human DRG, the role of oncostatin M in nociceptor regulation, and the demonstration that cancer-induced nerve injury promotes resistance to anti-PD-1 therapy. He has also investigated FcRn blockade for relieving neuropathic pain and gait analysis as a quantitative indicator of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy severity. His translational research bridges basic neuropharmacology and clinical pain management, advancing targeted therapies for diverse pain etiologies.
