Owen J.T. McCarty is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and the Gordon Moore Endowed Chair at Oregon Health & Science University. His research focuses on thrombosis, hemostasis, and vascular biology, with recent work exploring how lipopolysaccharide organization regulates coagulation factor XII activation and the mechanisms of vascular permeability in systemic inflammation. He has pioneered whole-organism 3D mapping to reveal branching topology in vascular and nervous system development, and micropatterning to reprogram endothelial cells. His recent contributions include NHLBI workshop reports on ECMO-induced coagulopathy and best-practice guidelines for medical image segmentation. His work bridges cell biology, pharmacology, and immunology to advance therapeutic approaches for hematologic and vascular disorders.
