Narayan Yoganandan is a Professor and Chair of Biomechanics in the Departments of Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, and the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Marquette University (1985), an MS in Civil/Structural Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (1979), and degrees in Civil Engineering and Mathematics from Mysore University. His research focuses on spinal biomechanics, cervical spine trauma, injury prevention, and the development of quantified injury criteria for head, spine, and thoraco-abdominal regions, particularly under impact and blast loading. Recent work includes finite element analysis of cervical fusion devices, female pelvic fracture risk in frontal sled tests, and behind-armor blunt trauma lung injury risk curves. He has led major federally funded projects, including a $4.3 million award for head and spine injury mitigation, and collaborates extensively with institutions across the US, India, France, Australia, and Germany.
