Nabil J. Alkayed is a senior professor at Oregon Health & Science University, where his research integrates vascular biology, neuroscience, and pharmacology to elucidate cerebral blood flow regulation and stroke pathophysiology. His work focuses on cerebrovascular mechanisms underlying ischemic injury, cardiovascular–neurological coupling, and vascular contributions to neurodegeneration. Recent studies examine elastin haploinsufficiency and cerebral blood flow in Alzheimer’s disease models, while his 2025 bioRxiv paper demonstrates epigenetic reactivation of CNS endothelial developmental programs driving post-stroke angiogenesis and neuronal regeneration. He investigates cytochrome P450 metabolism in critical care and vascular links between cerebral microhemorrhage and dementia risk. His contributions include preclinical stroke network trials and collaborative multi-laboratory studies advancing translational cerebrovascular therapeutics.
