Mike Hernandez

Mike Hernandez is a Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on oncology, radiation oncology, surgical outcomes, and breast cancer, with a specific emphasis on comparative effectiveness of proton versus photon radiotherapy for oropharyngeal cancer and postoperative pain management in cancer surgery. His recent work includes a multicentre, randomised phase 3 trial in The Lancet evaluating proton therapy, alongside studies on oncologic temporal bone surgery, osseointegrated hearing aid outcomes post-radiotherapy, and decision-making in adolescents with advanced cancer. He also investigates biomarkers in Barrett’s esophagus and anesthesiology-related outcomes.
