Michael P. Hutchens is a Senior Professor at Oregon Health & Science University. His research focuses on acute kidney injury, cardiorenal syndrome, and circulatory physiology, with specific interests in ischemia-reperfusion injury, vascular biology, and the pathophysiology of chronic kidney disease. His recent work includes developing a novel mouse model of heart-specific CSRP3 deletion to induce chronic cardiorenal syndrome, characterizing kidney cell responses to acute cardiorenal versus isolated kidney ischemia-reperfusion injury, and isolating primary human proximal tubular epithelial cells from brain-dead organ donors. He has also contributed to consensus statements on sex and gender differences in acute kidney injury and investigated cilastatin sodium efficacy in a large animal crush syndrome model. His research integrates translational models bridging critical care, nephrology, and cardiovascular disease.
