Michael Nowak is a Research Professor of Physics and Associate Director of the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. He earned his SB from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his MS and PhD from Stanford University. His research centers on high-energy astrophysics, particularly X-ray spectroscopy and timing of accreting black holes, including stellar-mass systems and supermassive black holes such as M87 and Sgr A*. Recent work involves multi-wavelength campaigns with the Event Horizon Telescope, Chandra Source Catalog analyses, and broadband studies of black hole spin and accretion geometry. He has led US-German cooperative research on accretion flows and collaborates extensively with institutions across the US, Europe, and Asia.
