Mehdi Mollapour is a Professor at Upstate Medical University, where his research integrates cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and oncology to address kidney cancer pathogenesis. His recent work focuses on molecular chaperones and signaling pathways in renal tumors, including targeting and dissociating HIF2α from Hsp70 to trigger apoptosis in kidney cancer, and inhibiting protein phosphatase 5 (PP5) to overcome drug resistance in clear cell renal cell carcinoma. He also investigates the chaperone network involving CDK4 and Emw1/TTC27 in eukaryotic elongation factor 2 folding, alongside genomic studies of MTAP loss in sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma and FANCC associations with hereditary and sporadic renal tumors. His contributions have been recognized with a 2020 award of $435,677 for targeting serine/threonine protein phosphatase-5 in kidney cancer, and he actively fosters global collaboration through symposia such as the Ninth BHD International Symposium.
