Mayra Shanley is a Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her research focuses on cancer immunotherapy, cellular therapy, and cell biology, with a particular emphasis on engineering natural killer (NK) cells for adoptive cell therapy. Her latest work explores mitochondrial fitness and metabolic supercharging of NK cells via IL-21 and adenoviral E4ORF-1, universal multi-receptor NK cell platforms for synergy with antibody and T-cell engager therapies, CD5-directed CAR5/IL-15 NK cells for T-cell malignancies, and agent-based modeling of cellular dynamics in adoptive cell therapy. She also investigates oncolytic virus-induced AP-1 and IRF signaling to sustain anti-tumor NK activity, with publications in Communications Biology and Cancer Research.
