Maxim Shcherbakov is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Irvine. He earned his B.Sc. (2006), M.Sc. (2009), and Ph.D. (2012) from Lomonosov Moscow State University. His research focuses on nanophotonics, dynamic metamaterials, and lightwave technology, with recent work on voltage-tunable metalenses, ultrafast Q-boosting in semiconductor metasurfaces, and nonlinear mid-infrared meta-membranes. He also develops programmable on-chip photonic processors for machine learning. His 2024 CAREER award ($550,000) supports bridging infrared and visible photonics with chip-ready nonlinear and quantum metadevices. He collaborates extensively with institutions across the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
