Matthew Clark is a Senior Professor at Sonoma State University. His research integrates environmental science, remote sensing, and ecology, with a focus on forest structure, wildfire severity, and soundscape ecology. Recent work includes using GEDI and mobile laser scanning to quantify post-fire forest fuels and canopy changes in California, and developing the BioSoundSCape dataset for the Fynbos Biome. His publications examine how ladder fuels predict wildfire severity and how remotely-sensed predictors map regional soundscapes, with applications to avian vocalization classification. He has led collaborative research on economic globalization's impacts on land use and natural systems, supported by major NSF funding.
