Mark V Schaverien is an Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on reconstructive microsurgery for breast cancer, specifically optimizing outcomes in autologous free flap reconstruction, including the impact of neoadjuvant and postmastectomy radiation therapy. He has published extensively on reducing donor-site morbidity, such as using retrorectus polyglactin mesh to prevent bulges in DIEP flaps, and on managing breast cancer-related lymphedema through vascularized lymph node transfer. His recent work also explores locoregional management in the neoadjuvant era and the application of artificial intelligence in patient education.
