Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine
Maria Alu is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia University. Her research focuses on valvular heart disease, transcatheter valve interventions, and cardiovascular outcomes in elderly populations. She has contributed to the Tricuspid Valve Academic Research Consortium-2 (TVARC-2) consensus documents defining trial design and endpoints for tricuspid valve therapies. Her recent work examines phenotypic diversity in transcatheter mitral repair for secondary mitral regurgitation, late outcomes of balloon-expandable valves in small annuli, and sex-specific impacts of coronary artery disease in severe aortic stenosis. She also investigates trends in mitral valve interventions and heart failure hospitalizations following transcatheter aortic valve replacement in older patients.
