Lucia Carbone is a Senior Professor at Oregon Health & Science University. Her research integrates genetics, genomics, and evolutionary biology to investigate mammalian genome architecture, epigenetic regulation, and developmental biology. Her latest work includes haplotype-resolved reference genomes of six ape species, published in *Nature* (2025), and the human and non-human primate developmental GTEx projects. She also explores neurogenomics, with recent studies on transcriptomic profiles underlying vocal evolution in African clawed frogs and astrocyte reactivity in alcohol dependence. Her research on centromeric transposable elements driving karyotypic variation in gibbons, published in *Cell Genomics*, highlights her focus on genome evolution and structural variation.
